Owning a pet is a common and enjoyable experience for many people, often considered as a member of their family. However, not every relationship between humans and animals is successful and there are instances where pets are abandoned. Unfortunately, news of pets being left by their owners for good luck is becoming more frequent. Reasons for abandonment include unwanted litters, changes in address, financial difficulties, loss of interest, and positive behavior problems. Less common reasons include allergies, the arrival of a new child, hospitalization, or the death of the owner.

The canine appears to be concerned about the well-being of her offspring.

Abandoning a pet and leaving it to die is unacceptable. It is illegal to dispose of animals and those who commit such acts can face prosecution, according to Lorie Chortyk, the General Manager of Communications at BC SPCA.
