At the beginning of this year, a group called Alley Cat Rescue located in Los Angeles was informed of a mother cat and her eight kittens from two different litters. The rescue successfully intervened and took in the entire family before they were sent to a shelter.
Tangerine, a one-year-old calico, was in dire need of assistance. According to Alley Cat Rescue, Tangerine’s mother had given birth to two litters of four kittens at different times, and all of them were being nursed simultaneously. As a result, the young mother was struggling to provide enough milk for her eight offspring. To alleviate the situation, volunteers stepped in to help by feeding the older kittens, allowing Tangerine to solely focus on nursing her four ten-day-old babies.
Alley Cat Rescue shared that the kittens were doing well for a few weeks until their mother ran out of milk. Fortunately, they had been receiving some help and meals from the organization, making it an effortless transition. The kittens needed to be bottle-fed 24/7, but their mother Tangerine was still taking excellent care of them by keeping them clean. She was thankful for the assistance and started spending more time with her caretakers, enjoying their affection.
Upon the arrival of her caretakers, Tangerine joyfully welcomed them with her charming purrs. Alley Cat Rescue shared that she was very affectionate and craved attention. At only three weeks old, one of the older kittens displayed an impressive skill in devouring their mother’s food. Despite some of the younger kittens still struggling to stand on their own feet, this particular little one had already mastered the art of feeding.
The intelligence of kittens never ceases to amaze me. They swiftly adapt to litter box routines, groom themselves, play with toys, and curl up for warmth. Little Cornbread was the smallest of his litter and required extra care to aid his growth. His weight gain came to a halt and we closely monitored him to ensure he received the necessary attention.
Despite being the same size as his bottle, Little Cornbread had a remarkable determination to catch up with his larger siblings. His mother, Momma Tangerine, would always encourage him after each feeding and clean off his milk mustache. Despite being smaller, Little Cornbread proved himself during wrestling matches with his bigger siblings, refusing to let his size define him.
The ginger kitten is growing well and looks absolutely beautiful. According to the caretaker, the little one is very affectionate and has quite the appetite. It’s always a delight to see how the other kittens welcome him when he joins them for a meal. While his littermates have started eating solid food, this little guy still prefers his milk bottles. And who could blame anyone for indulging those big blue eyes?
After raising her babies, Momma Tangerine has decided to retire from motherhood and is ready to have a place of her own where she can be the center of attention. She entrusted her caretakers with her babies and this week, she finally had her dream come true when she was adopted and moved into her new home.
The kitten is overjoyed to be young once more, enjoying unlimited love, playtime, and cuddles with her forever owners. She now has a family and a new sibling showering her with attention, and this brings her immense joy and contentment. According to Alley Cat Rescue, she can finally savor her happily ever after.
